Default Using British qualifications in USA?

Hello, I’m living in USA with my husband (adjustment of tatties through my marriage). I just revived notice that i will be receiving my working documents soon so I have been looking at options.. back home I was a beauty therapist, did 3 years at college(Nq level 6 and HND) im wondering if anyone knows if you can use those qualifications here. I know you have to get a state licence over here and do 600 hours at beauty school but would my scottish qualifications help at all? Maybe reduce the amount of hours I have to do or will I have to start from scratch?...

Your qualifications have no value here at all. You would need to requalify if you want to practice here.

The exact requirements may well vary by state, so it would be difficult to tell you precisely what you need to do.

Get in touch with a local community college that offers beauty programs. An advisor there should be able to help.

May be its worth contacting WES for evaluating. They are specialists for exactly this and their evaluations are normally accepted by most US unis and colleges.

This may save you some years/credit hours, if you still have to do some course at a US college. All the best!

What Tom said!

You may be able to get some course credits for your qualifications in the UK. It is not certain, and you will probably need to have your British qualifications evaluated. There are several agencies that perform evaluations, so that is something to ask the community college as colleges usually have a preference as to who you use to have qualifications evaluated.

This is a good point. Back in 1998 I had a Miami company translate all of my UK qualifications into an American equivalent.
Cost about $100.
Pointless exercise. No one gave a damn.

I'm assuming this means Adjustment of Status rather than Adjustment of Potatoes.

Took me a few mins, mind...

I was a hairstylist in another country. Do I have to go back to school if I want to work in New Jersey? No. If you come from another country, you must submit an "out-of-country" application and the required documentation, and you also must pass the Board's examination. The application must be requested in writing and will be mailed to you.
