Self check has been around awhile but there is a new "self lock" feature that lets you lock out your SSN from the E-verify database, which prevents someone from using it fraudulently. Only in a few States to begin with.

Yeah some 'immigrant' has been using mine
It's not actually against the law.
Would inconvenience them and stop them seeking work which is frowned upon.

Re: USCIS my E-verify
Say's I am eligible to work in the US. Nothing new there....lol...Interesting how they do this now though, seems like a smart idea.

There is also the RIDE program, which links E-verify into DMV databases, but only a few States are linked presently.
So if you're in say, Arizona, someone can steal your DL and if they get your SSN they can defeat E-verify that way. But if you're in a State with RIDE then they've got to look like you. This idea is to lock out your SSN from the system. Can't understand why you can only lock it out for a year.
Anyway if they ever get RIDE nationwide then it becomes less of a problem. Because there's nothing to stop you from using an out-of-State DL for one thing.

They tie in to several databases.
When I E-verify my employees here in Texas, I'm occasionally presented with a photo to compare with the ID photo. My most recent was a picture from their Green Card (I know this because it was identical to his Green Card ID). I think the other photo IDs come from passport records, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Yes it's linked into the USCIS picture database, however obviously most people are not immigrants, so as I recall they had a situation in Arizona where someone stole a Texas DL and got a job on a military base which caused a stink. Since then they've been coming up with these things to stop people from getting around it that way, this SSN lockout is a new one, they started RIDE a few years ago but until last year only one State was in it. Few others have joined now, but not Texas.
