Which USA TV can accept PAL Wii

I have a PAL Wii and would appreciate advice of :

Which large screen (>46") LED/LCD TV to buy that would be able to display my PAL Wii (either through settings on TV or settings on Wii)?

Thanks in advance

I don't think it matters, use a composite cable to send a 480p signal to the TV and it'll work regardless of PAL or NTSC.

Bit irrelevant really as the wii is region locked, so games over here won't work on it, so it's better to flog it and the games and get them new over here or second hand.

I don't know for sure but you may want to do some googling or binging on Sony tv's.

I found this link if it helps:

Good Luck.

There are TV's that will accept both NTSC & PAL signals but they seem to be more expensive (google PAL NTCS TV's). We bought a PAL>NTSC converter that works really well with our PAL PS2 it cost $220 but as sonny had over 60 games was cheaper than starting from scratch with a US PS2. We went to a local specialist electronics store here in Houston with the PS2 and tried it before we bought it. You have to be careful to get one with the right voltage and frequency (we bought one off of ebay originally that didn't work because the frequency wasn't right).

$220 ????

I bought a slim ps2 with two controllers, a memory card and five or six games for $70.

indeed...but then if you've got a tele that's larger than about 14" you need a digital convertor box and those get silly money, the old cheap analogue ones wouldn't work on a decent sized tele.

Re: Which USA TV can accept PAL Wii

Thanks for the replies so far, they were good replies. I don't fancy the route of getting a PAL to NTSC converter as I bet there will always be signal losses during the conversion, not to mention the lags and delays. Besides they are expensive.

I was just wondering if those advanced HDTV would work with with PAL signals as I not only have a PAL Wii, 2 PAL Xboxes (installed with XBMC - they are my main media centre).

My main advice so far is to go component (rather than composite) as the HD component cables are standard across NTSC and PAL, am I right?

However I also have a decent Sony HDD Camcorder (PAL again), but the HD component cable method would not work with the camcorder. So I really hope that there would be some TVs in USA that will be able to display PAL signals. Why can't the Americans have TVs that can display PAL. British TVs can display PAL,SECAM as well as NTSC!

Bit irrelevant considering that a) they didn't buy a PS2 and b) you didn't get 60+ games with yours.

Simple...because to folks here, the world outside the US is irrelevant! Our way...or the highway, no stinking compatibility with third worlders required here ;)

I know it was expensive but I had a 10 year old boy with a slim PS2, 2 controllers, 60+ games, skateboard attachment, steering wheel attachment and eye toy etc all shipped over from the UK. Choices were get a PAL/NTSC TV (expensive), a convertor (cheaper) or buy a US PS2 or 3 or Xbox with controllers games etc which would then be no use if we ended up going home at the end of hubby's 3 year stint so it made sense at the time. Of course over last summer we ended up buying a US Wii anyway and he just treated himself to a US PSP so we will be buggered if we end up going back anyway. But you know what - I have a very happy almost 11 year old and that is priceless :D

P.S. Our converter is pretty good - I barely notice any loss is speed of gameplay etc. If you change your mind let me know and I'll go find out which one it is.

PSP isn't region coded for games, movies are though but who watches paid movies on it anyway, so you shouldn't have any problems there.

Sorry riverkwai - all this free time on my hands and yet going upstairs to look at the thing was more than I could apparently manage last week ;).

It's an Atlona AT-HD520 CV/SV to HDMI 1080p - Son uses it to play his UK PS2 on his Samsung NTSC TV and is very happy with it - picture looks good to me and there doesn't seem to be any loss in speed (to my eye). He mainly plays things like Sonic, Spyro, Kingdom Hearts etc. Hubby has used it to watch UK DVD's (through the PS2) but says the picture is not the best. It was around the $220 mark - can't remember if that was before or after tax.
