In USA - now what!?

Default In USA - now what!?

I entered the US on my E2 and am now working out what the steps are to get a social security no., get a state ID etc. Does anyone have any tips on the admin steps needed to get legit? Thank you.

download form SS5 and fill in ...take to SSA offices
go into DMV book driving test when have SSN

If you have only just entered you may want to wait 7-10 days before going to get a SSN it sometimes takes them a little while to get you in the system.

thanks for the quick reply guys. As a resident in Las Vegas I am fed up paying tourist rates for everything!

you are not a resident , you are still an alien..we have found this to our chagrin,until you get PR status you still dont count as a resident for a lot of things

Each state has their own definition of what a resident is, it is not linked to your immigration status at all.

What? You are an alien til you become a US citizen.

As soon as you move to the US you are 'resident' for most things.. do you have an example? Because there could be negative ramifications for following what you said (tax returns come to mind).

What discounts do you get for having a SS#? I can only think of in-state tuition rates but that's usually for living somewhere for 1 year.

My "Alien Status" is a Permanent Resident.

Being a US Citizen takes you out of the "Alien" Classification; Citizenship alone.

The Feds can revoke anything but that!

not SS but NEvada state ID means discounts at nightclubs, casinos, shows etc.
