Default USA mortgage - first time buyer?

Hi

I am emigrating to the US shortly, and am aware that first time buyers get some great deals on mortgages. I did buy a house in the UK. Does anyone know whether this would make me ineligible? I can't find any explanations online and wondered if anyone was in the same boat.

Thanks

Eddie

Are there? I can only think of the $8,000 tax credit, which has expired.

Beware of anyone who offers you a "great deal" - at least until you have shopped around and checked out all of the other great (and sometimes not so great) deals.

Initially your biggest problem getting any kind of loan is likely to be your complete and utter lack of any US credit history.

Thanks everyone

I found this link - http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/...204671,00.html

which confirms the expiration of the tax credit

I will double-check with my source and see what he was on about - I think he may have been referring to FHA?

Welcome to the site.

It's best to rent for a while...gives you chance to check out the areas.
