Default USA Dvd's?

I'm returning to the UK this summer - I'm just wondering -- I know my dvd's won't work in a UK player, are there any options other than buying all new DVD's? Seems a silly thing to think about, I know, but it would be a shame to have to leave them all behind!

Easiest option is to buy a multi-region dvd player which will play anything regardless of the region, only problem is that they are not always easy to find, as the main manufacturers don`t like them but if you find one it should be cheap as they are manufactured mostly by unknown names.

You should be able to find a DVD player that can be unlocked even if it is not advertised as being multiregion. Do an internet search for "region free dvd unlock" and you should find a lot of useful information.

In general the cheap Korean models can normally be easilly unlocked if they are not already multiregion and my experience has also shown that in general Phillips players can normally be unlocked fairly easily. Avoid Pioneer like the plague if you want region free.

Just out of interest, can you get multi-regional DVDs in the US that play British DVDs?

I think it's the same as above, I know it's been talked about in the US/trailer Park.

Morning ABY,

Ta. I need to look into that as I have a collection of British DVDs and nothing to play them on. I'll do a search.

Enjoy the sweltering weather

Do a search for Cyber Home - Wal-Mart sell them for about $30 ... mine is still going strong after 6 years. Before you buy one, you shoud check if there is a hack available to convert to multi-region.

Eessentially all DVD players are multi-region, but the manufacturers lock them to play only one region. The hack releases the lock.

Interestingly, cheaper makes are usually more hackable than makes like Sony.

Thanks D. I am not the least bit technically minded, but my godson can do it for me. Thanks.

The only problems I have heard of are that occasionally certain functions won't work after you hack the player - for example, maybe a handful of times (I've watched hundreds of DVDs on this player) it won't play the subtitles (don't ask - it's an age thing, not a language thing!)

You poor thing, and it is so hot right now

I have just come back from a 2 hour walk (training for a 2 day breast cancer walk this weekend), and I have never sweated so much in my life. Feel like I've pee'd my pants. Off to the shower now so the cats don't turn up their noses at stinky sweaty me...............

Off to Colorado for the next week walking in the Rocky Mountains Saturday and Sunday. Can't wait
