US/UK citizen looking to teach in US
I'm a dual national - US/UK - and a science teacher. I taught in NC for a year back in 2005 and am working on going back to US to teach in 2010, but heard that teachers being laid off right, left and centre...so hoping to gauge opinions on my chances of finding a job Aug/Sep 2010.
My qualifications are from the UK and I know that I will need to get their equivalents, but I went through an agency before but they have also told me that things are slow and sticky, as I am not in the USA currently. So really my issue is getting a teaching licence.
My plan was to contact school districts myself with all the relevant documents, but should I wait till I get back to the states?
Any help much appreciated. Cheers.

If you already taught in the US in 05, don't you already have the necessary qualifications to teach here now? (apart from updating them) If not, then yes, you would have to 'convert' to US teaching qualifications.
Might not do any harm to do some research while you are still in the UK, you might get an idea of how the land lies here, as far as you being able to find a position here. It's not pretty here right now, and teachers are being laid off every day.
Good luck.

Where you planning on teaching?
Would depend on the subject and location I guess.
You'll find it really tough finding a job in Maine and Mass though. No idea for other states.
