US Resident’s UK Tax Return with UK property Income
Hi folks,
New here. I am a UK citizen and US resident with UK property income. I would need to declare my UK rental income on a UK tax return and pay any tax due on that income to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). Here is response from ChatGTP
Thanks in advance for the assistance!

- Register with HMRC: You will need to register with HMRC as a non-resident landlord. This can be done by completing form NRL1, which can be found on the HMRC website.
- Collect necessary information: Gather all the relevant information you will need to complete your tax return, including your rental income and expenses, such as mortgage interest and property management fees.
- Complete the tax return: Complete the UK non-resident landlord tax return form, which is known as form NRLY. You will need to provide information about your rental income and expenses, as well as your personal details.
- Submit the tax return: Submit the completed tax return, along with any supporting documentation, to HMRC by the deadline, which is usually 31st of October following the end of the tax year.
- Pay any tax due: If you owe any tax on your UK rental income, you will need to pay it to HMRC by the deadline.
Thanks in advance for the assistance!
