My husband is about to join me in the US and I cannot afford the additional cost for
insuring him under my work coverage. I have rang around to a few places only to be
told by some that they do not offer health insurance in the 1st year for new
arrivals? Eh?

Does this sound right? Does anyone have a company they could recommend? He is from
the UK and has no pre-existing conditions.

Many thanks, Ella (US to UK to US again)

It would seem that the cost of equal coverage with him NOT attached to your work
policy would be higher than if you attached him to it.

WHen my husband came from the UK we were in the same situation. It was very high to
get health insurance for him. I found out that he couldn't get any health insurance
until after the medical findings of the INS medical exam. I guess it is standard for
this to happen when you are paying for your own medical or something. He can get
insurance now as self employed resident, but it is a little different than what I
thought it would be. Good luck with your insurance, the INS didn't ask us about
health insurance in our interview.
