Cost of medications are not unique to the US, we don't have full coverage in Canada for prescriptions via our provincial health plans, and while prices tend to be lower, the cost can still be prohibitive for people and people will go without medications.
The US system is screwy and needs to be changed so everyone has access to basic healthcare, but universal healthcare doesn't mean universal access to medication.
