Curious to see how long this unwisely bureaucracy is going to take to actually get check issued after Trump signs the bill (assuming it passes the house)

Months I suspect. By which time the damage will be done.

Meh, the check is the part that gets the most media coverage, but honestly I see the expanded unemployment benefits and the small business loans as being the much more important parts of this bill for the economy. Hopefully they can get it all rolled out fast.

the “news” is saying May:
https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/25/polit...rus/index.html

not sure how hard it is, if they are going by 2019/2018 tax returns they only have to look up 1 number and calculate what if any payment is due and then send it out by ACH like refunds or a check if someone asked for that before and had no bank details on file. The mess will be all the people who have moved house / moved bank etc.... wonder if that will make people file their 2019 quicker now to get accurate details on file. I am assuming that many people that have moved here on visa’s are not in salary range to benefit from this in any case unless they went married filling separately....

We shall use our check to, umm, pay our taxes, as last years 'married filing jointly' screwed us for the second year in a row, I notice the W4 for this year has a whole load more calculations for MFJ...

I mailed in an official change of address form a few days ago (IRS Form 8822), since I moved back in December but am not ready to file my 2019 return yet.

I'm retired so I'm not sure if I will get a check, if I do I'll give it away to my grand kids, I really don't need the money. .

Looks like more details here:

https://www.nytimes.com/article/coro...s-answers.html

seems to key off SSN and 2019 or 2018 tax return, so it could also cover PR and visas holders if they earn little enough to qualify.

This article is pretty clear. LPRs and NIV holders as long as they are tax residents will be receiving the cheques. I imagine therefore that most of us will be beneficiaries.

Depending on income of course. A work visa holder would, one suspects, usually be capped out as a result of their income.

On a call/webinar with our accounting firm now, one other thing they are saying is that you need a SSN, so even if a lower paid H1b qualified their dependents might not if they did not have a SSN. I assume the US residence requirement (refers to living in the US) so I assume means USC who live overseas won’t qualify.

Lots of different reporting on this, the first link quotes CNBC to say nonresident aliens won’t qualify:
https://nowthisnews.com/news/who-qua...campaign=ntpol
But is did not see that in the tax foundation link, and that’s also has other differences:

Dependents don't qualify for the payment anyway. For those under 18, their parents/guardians will get $500 (which I believe they'll get as long as they themselves have SSN). Otherwise... out of luck.

The focus was really on the corporate, not individual side, been seeing so much conflicting “analysis”... will be interesting to see if we get reports of visa holders with low enough compensation to qualify getting payments and seeing if their dependents qualify without a SSN. I guess it also will depend on visa type as some spouses are able to get a SSN.
