Default US Driving Test & UK Licence

I had a nice surprise today. I finally took my driving test on 3rd July. And was told at the time that they couldn't issue me with a plastic licence because I only had 25 days left on my current green card, so they handed me a typed up sheet which I signed and the examiner signed, this was my temporary licence. Which was valid for a month.
So today I went back to the test centre with my NOA for my I 751 extending my green card for 12 months. Reluctantly I gave them my UK licence, thinking that's the last time I'll see it. She scanned my card, NOA and UK licence. When she gave me my paperwork back, hey presto my UK licence was still there. I suppose it's a bit of a comfort zone for me. But I was really pleased.
I suppose it depends on which centre you use. I expected them to keep it.
