Hi People,

Anybody got any tips for cashing us cheques? don't fancy the 6 weeks wait barclays have quoted!

You haven't specified which country you are in, but on the assumption it's the UK, then read the following:

You might be offered two ways of doing this by your bank - negotiation and collection.

Negotiation usually lets you have the money straight away on the proviso that the bank retains the right to claw it back if the cheque bounces.

The bank picks up some risk in this method, which may restrict the circumstances in which it is prepared to offer this service (e.g. amount of cheque, who its drawn on, standing of you as a customer etc.)
