seems like a long way to hoike the family if its just a temp contract that could be cancelled at any time?

We came here for a year or two...although it wasn't a temp contract it was a company transfer. All of a sudden the 1 or 2 years have turned into 12.

How old are your children? If they are school age my choice of area to live would have to depend on the school district.

It's a good opportunity to sample life in the US. You will be about 30/45 mins from NYC, a couple of hours from Philly, approx 5/6 hrs from Boston and Washington DC, 8 hrs from Niagara and the Canadian border. The summers are long, hot and humid...the winters are usually snowy and very cold.
