Default US airport transfer

Hello all
Never needed to fill in an ESTA as have been on combination of L1 and H1 from Jan2007 until Sep2014 when I moved to Canada. I am a UK citizen

I have an approved ESTA that I completed

I have YYZ-LHR-YYZ booked with connection in US, both outbound and inbound
July is month of travel

My booking was done via AA

I just wanted to check if carriers request ESTA information as there is nowhere for me to enter the information, or do you just take your ESTA approved form with you to the airport

Many thanks

It'll be keyed to your passport number which at some point - at booking, if you're required to enter API or at check-in - you'll have to provide to the airline.
