Default Urgent fast track UK passport renewal from the States

Hello

I'm an English permentant resident in the States. I have a trip back to England planned at the end of June which involves a three day stopover in Florence, Italy and a one week trip to Corfu, Greece while I'm back in England. I'll be flying back to America on 21st July. My problem is that my passport expires in the 7th August. When I looked on the passport website it said that renewal applications from America will take at least 6 weeks while applications from England will take around 3 weeks.

My questions are...

1) Is there an urgent fast track way I can do this from the States where I can get this done in less time?

2) My UK banks etc are registered at my parents address in England. Will I be better off applying online as living in England and sending my passport home for my mum to send back to the passport office. She could then send it to me in the states and there should still be time before my trip back.

3) Alternatively, should I be ok traveling back into England via Florence with just over a month left on my passport and then making an appointment at the passport office while I'm home? If I did this, does anyone know if traveling to Corfu from the UK is a problem with a month on my passport going out and only three weeks left coming back?

Sorry for the long post. I just wanted to include all the info to save further questions.

Thanks

Tim

If you search here there have been recent threads about renewal times and they have been extremely quick (from memory 7-10days). Based on that you have plenty of time to get yours done.

A few months ago mine took about 15 days.

You probably know, but this is the starting point for overseas applications:

Do you even need X months passport validity to enter EU countries as an EU citizen?

My son's renewal last month was 2 weeks from posting with USPS 3-5 days to getting it back in my sweaty little hands......

Your passport doesn't expire until after you get back. As you are a LPR with a GC the 6 months requirement for the US doesn't apply.

Ah, I've just got the hang of using quotes on here.

So do you think that I'd be better off traveling as normal and applying for a passport renewal once I get back to the States? Just to confirm, I do have my Green Card, my passport expires on August 7th 2015 and I return to the States on July 21st. Thanks for taking the time.

Hello. Did your son apply online from the States but say that he was living in England and have his passport sent to your address? The estimated time frame for a passport renewal of someone living in the States is at least 6 weeks but for someone living in England it's up to 3 weeks.

I did it online from Texas, used my Texas address etc. I could have speeded it up a bit by using USPS 1-3 business days but I didn't need to and I'm too tightfisted to cough up the extra $20!

You've got what 3/4 weeks before you go? If, as those more knowledgeable than I have written, you can re-enter the US on your almost expired passport then I would leave it until your return.

Moot point now as others have pointed out as it expires after your trip, but had it not, as you're in LA you could have got a passport extension at the LA Consulate which would have given you a temporary one year extension. You book an appointment, you go in, hand over the passport and form, and 5 minutes later get a piece of paper and annotated passport back.

Note: not recommended unless absolutely necessary.

I didn't think they issued extensions anymore, it was only a temporary thing while there was the stupid backlog last summer.

It's still on their website. Back in January she said normal renewals were only taking two weeks and yet they were still doing the extensions then.

The British Embassy in Washington posted on their Facebook page that they were no longer taking renewals overseas as the crisis in applications was over in the UK. I strongly recommend their FB page! It is very useful.

Yes as long as you have your Green Card you can renew the passport when you get back. It is your GC which is the more important document.
