Ummmm....a call to a British Consulate may be in order. I'm not sure what else to suggest.

I let mine expire for 2 years .....renewing isn't a problem if you still have your old one...i don't know about the time crunch though....I'm sure if he calls the Embassy they will be glad to speed things up

Have just found out that by ringing Orlando consulate can get a passport issued quickly - cost is 80 bucks per hour (500 bucks in total) and ready within 24 hours.

if he can get to a consulate, they can do an emergency passport that'll be good for a return flight...I'm pretty sure they can do that...I know they issue them in the middle east and africa...where my sister lost a passport and had one stolen...but she works for BA, so who knows.

If a baby has a SSN, it was presumably born here. Therefore, unless parents hold diplomatic status, the baby is automatically a USC.

USC's must always enter on the US on a US passport. However, assuming the parents are UKC's, the baby does not require a UK passport; they can simply go through the "johnny foreigner" line with their British passports and enter the baby into the UK on a US passport. Consequently, the baby should not leave the US without a US passport but could enter the UK without a UK passport.

Was born here. Weve left it in their hands now. Will post an update on what they did to solve problem.
