Updating SAVE

December last year I was granted an EAD valid for one year while my GC application progressed. GC was granted in January.

My driver license expired this month so prepared myself and sat through the usual 2 hour wait at the DMV. When reviewing my case to issue the new license only the expiry date of the EAD was in the SAVE system. So I can only get my PA license until December.

Does anyone have any idea how or where to request that the system gets updated to properly reflect my current status in the US?

Why did they have to check your EAD status? All you needed to show them was your green card.

You should have told them that your immigration status has changed, and that you are now a Green card holder (with proof of course), and all date restrictions would have been lifted

In PA they refer to the SAVE database to double check your status. I showed them my GC. They were as confused as I was to why the database information did not tally to the GC, but will only give a DL to expire when your immigration status (in the system) expires.

That is why I want to know if there is any knowledge of changing information in the SAVE database, as it should be updated by USCIS.

Note not all DMVs are equal.... Especially when dealing with immigrants.

Not that I've seen. It might never be updated.

I'd go to a USCIS field application office to ask about this one.

Thank you. I was hoping to avoid this at a 2 hour drive with all five of us is a real pain, but it would appear that it may be the only way.

They still check SAVE even when you present a green card.

I also got my green card in January and when I went to the SSA to get the restrictions taken off my social security card they couldn't verify my status in SAVE. They ended up opening a case with USCIS to verify my status (it appeared on https://save.uscis.gov/casecheck/) and a few weeks later my new social security card arrived in the mail. I don't know if that means they have also updated the SAVE database but my drivers license doesn't expire until next year so I'll have to wait and see!

Can you get the PA DMV to manually verify your status?

A quick Google search came up with this

You can't get a manual search it seems but you can begin the process of getting SAVE updated.. I'd probably go to a different DMV office as well-somewhere else might be more aware of what they're supposed to do

Thanks for the article. As my license was expiring in a few days I took the extension to December to be able to work things through. The advice from the supervisor at the DMV was to start the renewal early, say October, to allow time for things to get worked through. That tallies perfectly with the process in the article you linked.

As my wife's license expires at the end of the month I was hoping to find a way to get the information updated so that her license could be done 'properly' in one visit. Maybe if she starts now it could come through. Worst case she can get the extension to December too.

Seems a little odd that the DMV have to update the information that they use for validation, even though they have to use the data in the system knowing it is incorrect!! However, nothing surprises me with some of the bureaucracy we have encountered, mostly at the DMV

Re: Updating SAVE

REAL ID Act requires them to use SAVE, it's in the regulations, it's not just PA it's the whole US. If your information is incorrect in SAVE it's a DHS issue, so USCIS probably screwed up when the card was issued.

So they came up with this: https://www.uscis.gov/save/casecheck
