Update on Opening a new Bank account
Thanks to all the helpful suggestions, you were right, I walked accross the road and the Bank of America opened a checking account in my name with a very nice customer service attitude and no hesitation whatsoever.
Now all I have to do is compose and send a letter to the CEO of Bank Atlantic, outlining the service (or lack of) and attitude from the manager of the branch, who hasnt even bothered to call me as promised, with the result of the enquiry to their Legal Department.
I was really ticked off and your replies made me feel a lot more supported, so thanks for that
RE: Opening a new Bank Account
I came on k1 little more than a year ago, and applied for AOS last August, I am without EAD, but still pending adjustment, just having been for biometrics. I took all the documents along to the bank (SSN, passport, Marriage certificate and Florida ID, etc) along with the US treasury check with my name on it, and tried to open a bank account. They scanned all my docs and checked with their legal dept, and said because the visa had expired they couldn't open a bank account for me, any one else had this experience?

They were talking a lot of bull, they don't need a valid EAD, or SSN to open an account, having one just makes it easier because they don't have to think about using other forms of ID.
I also wouldn't bother wasting the ink with writing to the CEO, the bank wouldn't care less...seriously, unless your a high earner for the bank, like someone who'll drop $30K a month on a credit card, they really couldn't care.

Re: Update on Opening a new Bank account
My advice: Go to another bank.
That being said, if you go there WITHOUT your passport, show them your
Flodida ID, tell them that you are a resident (as in for tax purposes)
[and that your immigration status is none of their business] you'll
probably get your account.
They have to check your ID, and have to fill in tax forms (which gets
slightly more complicated for non-residents [which isn't your case] ).
They also have to check your SSN in the process. Your immigration
status trully is none of their business.
