Default Unrestricted SSN

I went to a NY Social security office to remove the restriction on my new Green Card and the employee told me that they were unable to automatically prove my immigration status.

The said it would take 4 weeks and they had never seen a category code L1 printed on the GC before, instead of a more normal E13.

Any reasons to be worried?

(You said "restriction on [your] new green card", I assume you meant restriction on your social security card? )

Er, you're a permanent resident. I have no idea what the social security employee is talking about.

In any case your green card trumps the "not valid for employment" wording on your SS card, so I wouldn't worry about it, at all.

Go to a different SS office. I assume you are showing them your physical green card?
