UKsocial worker wants to move to NYC
HI, i am new so please bear with me!, i have a small dream about moving to new york and practicing social work, mainly to see the differences between usa and uk social statuts etc. Problem is i just dont know where to start and if its going to be so hard to get a visa that maybe i should compromise with a different country for this experience?
any help, tips, advice would be really appreciated

Good luck.
Have a look at the wiki, the ways into the US - http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Pulask...ork_in_the_USA
It's a good starting point.

Practising social work to see the difference between social status in the 2 counties? What does that even mean?

If your dream is really to "see the differences between usa and uk social statuts," then I suggest you complete an MSW or, even better, a PhD. If you don't have at least an MSW, no one in the US will even consider you for a job - regardless of your dream.
So... where to start? 1) Remain in school; and 2) Research an F-1 visa.

The problem in your desire is going to be the visa. To get a visa, you will need an employer to sponsor you, and generally speaking sponsorship is either for a transfer as part of an international company or for highly educated technical fields, such as engineering, law, medicine, and a few other things. (Read the Links above)
On top of that is the fact that a great deal of social work is done by government organizations who would have to cough up about $5,000-$10,000 to get you a visa and then tell the taxpayers (who pay their salary and vote for their bosses) that "no American citizen or permanent resident could do this job so we had to hire a foreigner". Yea, that's a non-starter. The others that hire for social work don't exactly pay that well and aren't exactly flush with cash to pay for a visa.
You'll probably need to look at a higher degree, or maybe becoming a minister and getting a religious clergy transfer. There's also the marriage route, or if you have some cash, the study in the US, make some friends and find a job that way.

thank you for advice, the main purpose of my wish to work in the usa is to see how your 'welfare state' differs to ours, how your systems work etc....really has nothing to do with facebook
