UK to US qualifications?
I'm looking for advice on qualifications I currently hold in the UK and what they may be in the US. I've not yet moved to the US but am in the process of looking into the K-1 process and therefore am solely looking at advice on just the qualifications themselves as opposed to moving to the US altogether.
I currently have 9 GCSE's, 3 A-levels (one of those being Psychology) and have completed my level 2 and 3 certificates in counselling skills which were each a year long. I am interested in becoming a counsellor however am aware in the US that most states require a minimum of a masters for this. Therefore I am considering studying for this in the US, but was hoping to not have to do a full bachelors for example, if some of my qualifications would add up to anything? I know the qualifications don't convert exactly, but I was more wondering whether US colleges would to a point recognise I had some qualifications above high school level and therefore could result in less time ding the degree? I hope this all makes sense, it's just really frustrating to think about doing a possible other 6 years of college on top of the years I've already put into my studying. I'm aware that I will need some degree of education to be a counsellor as my level of qualifications certainly isn't the equivalent to a masters. Aside from this, I was also wondering if anyone knew of any similar jobs to a counsellor that perhaps don't require this extent of qualifications? I have looked into a residential counsellor which seems can sometimes just require a high school diploma but was wondering what others there may be? Thanks in advance. |
