Default UK to US phone calls

I've found phone cards the best way to call the UK from the US.
But, when in the UK, what is the best way to call back to the States?

Use VOIP on a PC - many will give you free calls to the US both landlines and mobiles - such as VOIPSTUNT

I use Alpha Telecom, they're pretty cheap, maybe 3p per minute.

Calls charged at national rate - dirt cheap after 6pm and at weekends.
I used to use them from my mobile a lot when I was back home - my inclusive minutes always covered the cost of the call.
No faffing around ordering cards, etc either - just dial the number and you're away

I used to use onetel, quite cheap (around 2p per min) and they just sent you a monthly bill.

I always used Onetel too... my dad and sister use it for calling me now. Always been happy with them.

My Dad still uses them now, and used to gripe over the bill, that was until he forgot to use the plug in thingy and got a whopping bill from BT, never complained since funnily enough!

Anyone use Skype?

After sitting on it forever I finally got around to getting a microphone and I wouldn't go back, it was wonderfull seeing my Mum on the webcam. I've been pushing to get the whole family online, only minor negative is you have to fire up your PC to talk, not a problem for me as mine is on most of the day anyways

yep - we used to spend $100-150month on calls to the Uk. Now with skype its down to around $10/month! Just kicking myself we didn't get it earlier...
WE picked up one of those usb/telephone adapter things off ebay, so now we can use any of the home phones on skype, so we're not tied to the PC (still need to use it to initiate the call of course........)

VOIPSTUNT - free calls to landlines in the UK and US and works with your mics, USB phones etc - works like Skype!.....in case $10 a month is too much
