UK teacher wanting visa in USA
 

Hi, I would hugely welcome any interesting thoughts on my plan to come to the USA and work in a college drama department. I know that I am well-qualified for jobs, but for they would need to apply for visas for me, and maybe eventauly a green card. I know the official answers more or less, and the need for an honest immigration lawyer, but the real practicalities of companies applying for visas is something I would love to have more thoughts on please. Thanks you.

You might want to check out other postings on the website to do with teaching and immigrating. I have worked in a technical college (first 2 years of a degree, or associates degree) and you would need a Masters to be eligable. In a school you would need an undergraduate degree, but the competition is stiff, the arts are being cut from schools daily to focus limited funds on maths and english mainly.

You could check out the VIF program, visiting international faculty. They give a 3 year J1 visa, non renewable.

You are more likely to get a job somewhere in the EU, maybe at a private school, or Oz/NZ??????

Sorry to burst your bubble, but honestly only maths and science teachers are in any sort of demand.

Although it varies from state to state, you would most likely need to get recertified in the state you want to work in. The best way to get a job would be to come over and spend a couple of years getting a masters and teaching licence, then hope you can get a job after. Even that would have a very low chance of actually getting a visa.

The only places that are desperate for teachers are inner city schools, and their the ones that generally don't have a lot of money for the arts.
