UK shops in the USA

I am trying to think of businesses (mainly shops!) that have made the crossover from Britain to America - part of a project I am working on.

So far i've come up with:

Lush
Karen Millen
Ted baker
Top Shop

Can anyone think of any others?

Thanks,

JR

Didn't Tesco's or some other UK grocery store just open a few stores here? I've seen Next in a mall in Chicago - is that a UK shop? How about Mango?

www.lushusa.com

You can buy direct from them online (they ship from Vancouver), or you can look at the stores to see if you have one nearby.

Mango and Zara are both Spanish chain stores.

H&M (Hennes & Mauritz) is Swedish.

My local mall ("The Mall at Short Hills" in New Jersey) has these British stores:

http://www.shopshorthills.com/

French Connection
Crabtree & Evelyn
The Body Shop
Jimmy Choo
Anya Hindmarch (handbags, shoes)
Karen Millen
Molton Brown
Reiss
Links of London (jewellery)
Burberry
Thomas Pink
(A few years ago the mall had a Laura Ashley store)

Ben Sherman has a flagship store in SoHo, NYC

Virgin Megastores

Cath Kidston has a store in NoLita (Mulberry St) (for retro/vintage style houseware)

Stella McCartney has a store in the Meatpacking District - there are a couple of other Brit-owned 'boutique' stores in this vicinity - but not part of famous/major chains as far as I know.

Agent Provocateur (expensive, sexy lingerie ;) ) has a few stores in the US (eg. SoHo NYC, Las Vegas, LA etc.)

Gordon Ramsay - has some restaurants in the US.

Not a store, but a famous UK business with a presence here is Cadbury Schweppes; they own the Snapple ice-tea brand and have some kind of arrangement with Hershey's to sell Cadbury-branded chocs (which are horrible!). Apparently they have a company store at their offices not far from where I live (at Whippany or East Hanover, NJ) and bring in their English choc products! (I'm trying to find a way how I could buy some there LOL!).

The Financial Times publishes a US edition daily.

British Oxygen Company (B.O.C) has an operation in NJ.

Banking: HSBC, Barclays Capital....and I often get till receipts with RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland) markings on the back! There are definitely more British financial and insurance institutions operating in Wall St and in Financial district in NYC.

Entertainment: look at all those TV 'reality' shows which originated in the UK and where some of the production companies or Executive Producers for the US editions are British eg. Simon Fuller (19) and Nigel Lythgowe for 'American Idol', 'Dancing With the Stars' 'The Office' and some game shows. BBC Worldwide?

OK magazine now has a US edition, it's orginally a British magazine. FHM also has a US edition, again originally from the UK.

Cars; LandRover, Jaguar (now owned by Ford though!)

Petroleum: BP and Shell (although it's Anglo-Dutch!)

Tetleys Tea - in Connecticut

Maybe your nearest British Consulate will have info? There must be a British Business Association/Chamber of Commerce or similar I should think. Check the Brit Embassy and consular websites.

Hope this helps!

Just remembered that there are quite a few of the "Pret" (used to be called "Pret A Manger" ie. 'ready to eat') British sandwich shops in New York.

Great sarnies by the way! :)

Not a shop but you can get Rimmel makeup over here now. It's very inexpensive compared to what I used to pay for it when I went over to the UK. My local supermarket has a British and Irish food section. Unfortunately they charge $2.25 for a crunchie and $11.00 for a box of PG Tipps tea!
