UK share certificates
Hello,
I am new to this forum and seek help.
I have a number of share certificates in UK for shares on the London Stock Exchange. It has become extremely difficult, if not impossible to trade any of them from here in the USA.
So, does anybody recommend a UK broker who will handle sales UK shares?
Or, if I bring them to the USA for trading here (which seems to be a possibility) I have to complete a form and present it to US Customs.
Does any one know of anything else I need to do or have any good suggestions?
Thanks everyone,
Gilby

Re: UK share certificates
Liquidate them and either purchase US stocks, or purchase UK stocks through an international ETF or similar. As you are finding, anything else is a pain in the rear.

Re: UK share certificates
We liquidated some old BT share certificates we had on our last trip back to the UK. It went very smoothly. However, they were registered online at Equiniti and we had a UK address on file and a UK bank already linked, so I am sure that helped. Following the sale, within a couple of days, Equiniti mailed us a form to complete and return together with the original certificates, the funds were in our bank about a week later.

I gave some paper share certificates to Fidelity and they transferred them into electronic holdings in my US account. Took about 3 weeks. You need to have a funded account with them to do this,

I have a Fidelity account through my employer- a share scheme, I also have about 400 BT shares from the 80s which generate gbp10 dividends twice a year. I have not found a sensible way to deposit the checks since I do not have a UK bank account. I wonder if Fidelity will fulfill my requirements!
