Default UK Passport renewal question (a stupid one)

OK. This is even before section 1a on the C1 form...

It says to "Complete passport holder's name" but then the 3 lines below that are "Initials", "Family Name" and "Date of Travel". My initials are M.J. Am I supposed to put that, and if so, is that the name that will appear on my passport? I don't go by my initials, like so many of our American cousins, so don't want them to be on my passport instead of my first name.

Your initials would be for your middle name...and ain't there a slot for your first name, thought there was?

I filled it out recently. The info at the top is just info, don't think it is anything to do with what goes in your passport. Just put M.J. The formal name section is actually section 1a.

Thanks. I thought so.

I like how they get you thinking on the first question, about your name...

It's as if they sit around saying, "this form is too simple, how can we make it unnecessarily confusing for M.J.?"
