UK passport - expired and new name
OK...I am trying to get my c***p together and admit I am probably the least organised person in my sphere!
My UK passport expired 2014, though I entered USA in 2007 and having never needed to use the passport, I missed the expiration which was 2014! So has anyone navigated the process for renewing an expired passport AND managed to also change the name on the passport to the married name. I came to US 2007 on K1 visa and again, never got round to changing the name ....I know, I know...very lapse but I am trying to clean up my act and be more proactive with paperwork etc. Do I have to renew and change name separately? |

I believe you will have to send in your marriage certificate to change your name. Follow the instructions in the link below... https://www.gov.uk/search?q=Passport...ns_filter=true |

As long as the PP is within 10 years of the expiration date (which yours is)...it is a simple renewal. Over 10 years it would be a first time application.
Our son left his over 10 years expired and it was treated as a first time application, needed birth certificate, validation by someone who has known him a few years etc. |

Just complete the questions and you'll be given the appropriate information on how to renew your passport. Renewing an expired passport after a change of name by marriage is not a problem in and of itself providing you can provide your original marriage certificate. |

I had to renew my daughters' passports some time after they had expired. It was treated as a first-time application.

Re: UK passport - expired and new name
Thank you all for your replies, I better get my proverbial behind in gear, and plan for extra documentation but hope for the best. Whatever happens I will need it so best get on with it! Anyone confirm that the system online application just has you upload a photo? Hoping this is true because otherwise it is a flight into the next big town at over $1000 just for the airfare.

Re: UK passport - expired and new name
For a first time passport (for daughter) last year we had to send the photo. There was no option to upload as it had to be authorised by a countersignatory. For a renewal though it may be different. We took the picture ourselves, cropped it online and printed on our printer on photo paper.
