Default UK national needing USA rental car insurance. Help!

Hi Guys,

I am getting married in Vegas next month and want to rent a sports car. Enterprise have told me I need my own full insurance, Google is not my friend in this instance and wondered if anyone know companies that specialised in short term Insurance for foreigners in rental cars??

I have searched the forum and its no help, so any advice is appreciated.

Why can't you just purchase the insurance from Enterprise at a daily rate? It's pricey but that is what I did.

britexpat76 may have to explain a bit more on details, as getting insured as a foreigner for a hire car does not seem to be a recurring issue.

Is it something to do with it being a sports car?

Yes, its the car. Its a 911 so they don't offer their own insurance. I can rent a toyota/jeep/lincoln shitbox and pay nothing for insurance. As its my wedding and I don't visit the USA that often I want something a bit better.

No idea, but perhaps see if your credit card or home car insurance would cover the holiday cover?

Anyway, congrats on the wedding and good luck sorting the car out

Why on earth would a car rental company offer a car for rent but not offer insurance? Seems crazy..

Does seem odd. They usually make a lot of money on that side of it.

I have tried all the independent smaller car hire companies and they charge $150 extra for the insurance, but I want to use a larger company as the smaller companies only seem to want my credit card details before anything else, I am not comfortable with that especially as one never answers the phone or respond to E-mails. I have diners club who offer insurance but only the excess cover not a full policy.

The smaller companies often have the policy underwritten by a larger company. Credit card up front? That's usually SOP in the US.

You could just adjust your expectations and rent an ordinary car! Spend the money you saved on a nice $200 bottle of champagne instead of a $4 bottle of "champagne.."

Since you call yourself "Reckless Hedonist" (and it's your honeymoon) - why not spring for it:
Give Lloyds of London a call... if cost be damned - won't they insure ANYTHING?

Hey look what I found for you....
Google the following: American Express Premium Car Rental Protection
(the direct link doesn't seem to work, maybe because its an https site)

Edit: whoops....I don't think this will work, after all...believe you must reside in States (?)

and if that doesn't provide satisfaction, try calling these guys (they only rent on East coast - but they may be able to be helpful...worth a try)
