the saga continues. we got the PIN sent to my mum who emailed it to us and we activated the service okay. Hurray.
Then we started to move through the application only to see that as non residents we cant use the Inland Revenue service directly to file the return - and have to go via another company who can handle them. BOO!
The Inland Rev site gives a list of other companies who can help and the first one i clicked on looks okay. You can download an excel worksheet from them for free and then fill in all the relevant details (its actually laid out quite like the paper form but does all sorts of jiggery pokery and accepts foreign addresses etc). It then costs about £12 to upload a file to the Inland revenue via their site. We need to put the inland revenue user id and password into the spreadsheet so we still would have had to go through the PIN hassle.
