Myrtle Beach is SC, not NC, and not that nice, unless you go for places similar to Benidorm. If you're looking on the coast of SC, Pawley's Island or Folly Beach are much much nicer.

We just moved to Charlotte and would be happy to assist with anything if we can - feel free to ask any questions on here.

That said, Charlotte's not on the coast so we can't really help on the areas you are looking at. We are in Fort Mill (SC) and the schools appear to be excellent (EXCELLENT!).

I agree Folly Beach is gorgeous and near enough to Charleston for city amenities.
Not sure about property tax for the Folly Beach area but I know our property tax is way less in SC than it would have been if we had just been a few miles over the state line into NC.

As we'll be renting what taxes and insurance will be liable for?

Myrtle Beach has a kind of Blackpool vibe about it. Kind of chavvy. Folly Beach is nice and is just down the road from me. Further South the beaches are really good but I believe it gets a bit pricier house wise. However, neither Folly or Myrtle Beach are in NC so not really much point looking at them.

To the OP if your OH can work from home, why do you need go to NC? Lots of lovely coastline to choose from if that is a primary factor in where you move to.(I may have missed the post where you explain that so apologies if you've already answered that.)

Thanks Sarah G, just sent a request through FB. I suppose that SC could be in the equation, will speak with the OH later this pm, and look into houses etc. Do you know much about schooling in this area? LOL

The strip and the general 'touristy' area certainly is, but drive 10 minutes along the coast and it gets alot nicer. For what its worth when we do move there from GA we dont intend to live in MB, but about 30 minutes back frim the coast.

I do know a but about the school district in Mount Pleasant as that is where I am but beyond that, I would look at the greatschools website for info and then look at somewhere like Realtor for ideas for rentals. All the listings show you what Elementary/Middle/High school you would be in boundary for.

Property tax is generally rolled into the cost of rent, usually along with the cost of water. You may or may not have to pay for sewage and rubbish collection on top with all other utilities.

Just need renters insurance to cover personal possession, that's usually cheap as chips, but you need to see that the landlord has actually got adequate insurance on the property and liability.

Even with renters insurance you will still need additional flood coverage if in an area that is prone to flooding.

For NC property tax you may have to pay property tax on cars that you own. Not sure if this applies to all NC counties but it does mine.

Most states you do, they just call it various things, car tax, road tax, excise tax, personal property tax, whatever.

But is that liability covering you in the event a roof tile falls off the roof and hits someone, or the kind that'll cover you if your tele fell off the wall and hit someone elses kid?
