That really depends on where you are, but I would say on average you are far more likely to see an actual police car here and therefore more likely to get pulled over for speeding. Some places are very enthusiastic, others couldn't seem to care - very much varies by police district.

I find that they are often more enforced if you're not local Out-of-staters are considered fair game here - the peelers love I-95!

I accidentally blew past a state trooper at 90 mph on the interstate in SW Virginia ten years ago, when my Mustang was on NY tags. He was in the median and pulled out behind me, and three others travelling nearly as fast, but I have no idea why he didn't pull me over - I guess whatever else he was doing was more important, and he disappeared up the next exit ramp after following us for a mile or so.

Many small towns and rural counties pride themselves on funding as much of their local services as possible by enforcing speed limits. Watch out when driving in small town America!

However that didn't stop two rednecks in diesel Ford F250 crew cabs drag racing in the main street in the center of a moderate-sized town that I was visiting last Saturday lunchtime. There was tire smoke for sure, but most of the smoke came from the incompletely burned diesel belching from the exhaust pipes!

I used to think that before I moved here. Now I think some residential areas have silly high speeds. Near our previous house was a street with a 45mph speed limit, not particularly wide, houses fronting the street on both sides. Our new place has a bit more sensible speed limits nearby.

As for enforcement, I've only ever seen police hiding on the Interstates and outside schools at chucking out time. Certainly in the latter case, and to a certain extent the former case, it's strictly enforced according to locals.

I-15 northbound approaching the border between CA and NV is a 10 mile stretch of dead straight road, with a steep downhill descent. The first time I drove down there I admittedly let the car go a bit. The next couple of times I saw the police cars lined up... three of them once, and all three got three separate vehicles. Apparently a favourite spot for the police, and no wonder why.

Yes. It's a good money earner for many areas.

Your best bet is driving behind someone with out of state plates, preferably a BMW driver. Seems to work well around here at least

I follow the rule of never being the fastest car I can see on my bit of road. At worst, I'm "keeping up with the flow of traffic".

There are plenty of police cars and motorbikes around on the highway part of my commute, but having seen the vehicles they pull over they seem to target either the higher performance cars and/or young men. Just like in the UK really.

The priority seems to be, in NE at least:

Out of state
BMW's
Imported performance cars
Performance cars
Imports
Young blokes
Knackered cars

Buy something that the "factory trained technicians" can get parts for and know how to fix.

Speed limit doesn't have to be enforced here in CA. At least in LA, you never get near the damn limit.

Just got back from the evening commute so a bit of a sore point.....
