Re: UK citizenship for Brit's kids born in the US
Just to let you know; your adult kids (born outside the UK) are entitled to British citizenship.
However, if they have children (ie. your grandchildren) who were born outside the UK they won't be eligible for British citizenship, they would have to be born in the UK to get it.

I'm a NY-based Brit, born in Nottinghamshire, and have two adult kids born in the US..navigating through the process of obtaining UK citizenship for both ... the forms are truly intimidating... can anyone point to a good lawyer in the NY area who understands and can steer us through this labyrinth?
Thanks jesl

If they are UK citizens, then they don't need to apply for UK citizenship (as they already have it). They simply need to apply for the UK passports that they are already entitled to. You don't need to waste time/money on a lawyer or anyone else.

A nit pick...whether the parent has proof or not is irrelevant to the citizenship status of the children. The children were either British citizens at birth or they weren't. The existence or absence of proof of parental citizenship doesn't affect the children's citizenship - it just affects their abilty to prove their citizenship.
