Smile UK BBQ to US Convertor

Hello there

Having moved over to CA from UK 3 months ago, I shipped over our nice Webber Gas BBQ now I need your help and advise on where I can buy the required convertor/fittings enabling me to use it here in CA??

Already been to Home Depot and they do sell fittings BUT for US BBQs so obviously wont fit mine so I need to get a convertor or ????

I am sure other people have faced same problem and have overcomed it so hope they can guide me!!!

Weber web site.

It even rhymes.

Though quite how Propane differs between the US and the UK is beyond me.

My guess is very few people would move such large items.

You could try the Weber web site, see if they have the parts you need. If not look for a specialist shop dealing with BBQ and grilling. But my guess if you can't get the bits direct from Weber then you probably will not find them.

I'm guessing your connector to the gas bottle is different to the US ones. I think you'll need a hose and connector kit, to replace the complete line from the gas bottle to the grill. If that is the case Weber sell those for around $25.

Thanks for that.

I have seen those the problem is the actual hose hose connection in uk is push in type when you get to the grill and here is a screw type. I was hoping there may be a converter of some kind that I can connect to the grill end and then buy the complete line as you suggested!

For all the BS involved, you should have just left it with family back in the UK.

Did your Grill run on Butane Gas, or Propane back in the UK?

You will need to ensure that the Burner will be able to handle the Propane, here, and have the appropitate hose and fittings for the Gas over here. There may be a different PSI on the Propane Bottles here, from that in the UK.

I worked for a Calor Gas Agent, for a couple years after I left School in the UK, handling Gas and Grill Sales, along with Boats and related Accessories. Never heard of anyone exporting a Grill and looking to convert it, though.

I had a similar issue with a camping stove, I haven't found any way of converting so I've given up. It's not such a big deal as you can replace it relatively cheaply, just wish I'd left it back in the UK and given it to someone who could have got some use out of it. Now I have no choice but to dump it even though we only used it once.

Not sure what grill you have but this looks like a push in connector on the end of the hose.

http://store.weber.com/items/?pid=1365

If that is the case search for your grill on the Weber site and see if they have a quick discount hose for it

The connection to US gas bottles is different. My heater has the same fitting as my BBQ. You will need to see if you can buy the fittings for your heaters in the US.

We managed this with out bbq. Well I say we, obviously I wasn't allowed anywhere near the whole gas/tools/adapter thingy. Hubby bought a fitting for ours in home depot and changed it over himself. It was a bit of a fiddle though and he's an engineer. I was made to sit quietly inside until he'd finished and then allowed outside to oh and ah when he had safety tested it.

Hi Weeze,

Thanks for your post, it made me chuckle, I think I will be following the same pattern.
