Uber in Florida

As a Brit here in Florida, I can use uber and see there are rides available near me, which is useful. I can check how much it's going to roughly cost before booking it. BUT - do I have to add on tax (6%) to this cost and am I expected to pay the driver a cash tip?

Uber bills you the total amount, they take care of the taxes. You do not cash-tip Uber drivers.

Thanks Pulaski - that's what I thought -as in UK.

Do you think USA could ever become cashless (as uk is becoming with contactless payments etc) as I can't see how tipping would work in USA?

You add the tip to the bottom line.

I think this should read, "You are not obliged to cash tip Uber drivers".

I quite frequently tip Uber drivers in cash and Lyft drivers through the app. Why? If I've had a pleasant experience and the driver has been thoughtful and engaging they deserve it, in my view. Uber doesn't look after it's drivers very well at all, based on feedback I've got from them.

I use Uber a lot and all over the US and beyond in my work travels. Never, ever use taxis anymore.

If it becomes known that Uber drivers have cash, even relatively small amounts, you are putting them in even more danger than they are in already.

That's a bit of a stretch, isn't it? That fact that Uber riders are traceable through their credit card details and cellular device makes drivers less at risk than a regular cab driver, by a massive margin. I also have a strong sense that many Uber/Lyft drivers concealed carry when they are working, for additional insurance.

Not sure why Uber don't provide a facility to tip drivers within the app, as it would present an additional opportunity for them to fleece their drivers more than they do currently.

I don't think so - criminals go after cash, even stupidly small amounts when presented with a soft target. But you could try asking Mario Johnis Medina-Chevez. :(

Better stop tipping barmen, waiters, hairdressers, bell-hops etc then.
It'll only encourage criminals to rob them, I suppose.

I use Lyft, I've found they're a bit cheaper than Uber in Texas. That said, I'll use Uber if Lyft is running longer wait times.

I always tip, usually in cash if i have it.

Do agree with Welles though - I'm not sure that Article is really somebody targeting him for cash, that sounds like a premeditated attack

I've moved over to Lyft based on them not going out of their way to make their high management known to me as assholes. Lyft has the ability to tip on payment.

Where can you add tips within the Uber app? I've never seen that. I always tip em in cash, which is a pain, cause I never carry cash.

That's what I thought. I looked long and hard. There is also a few articles online about the lack of being able to leave a tip through the app. I love Uber, it is literally one of the greatest inventions ever, but it's suck a pain in the arse not being able to add a tip within the app.
