Pretty much as expected really. Its been leading up to this for some time, ever since Homeland Security was created actually.

I thought the government had made it quite clear some time ago...US travellers would need a passport to cross the Canadian or Mexican borders from January 07. It's just that the date of the 23rd has now been finalised.

Same. The in-laws go to Mexico yearly and the travel agent sent them a reminder to make sure they have passports (they do). One of the big cruise lines has been advertising on telly, reminding all potential cruisers about passports.

The passport requirement does not kick in on the land frontier until Jan 2008.

I think it should be pointed out that a driver's licence is not proof of citizenship. Only a Birth Certificate or Passport will do in this case.
