Default U.S imigration in Mexico city

Hi - Im flying to Mexico (from the UK - Im a British citizen) in a few weeks, Im staying there for a few days before catching a flight to New York city. This might sound like a strange question but where will I pass through US Immigration? Im assuming that It will happen when I reach NYC. However I have heard that the U.S sometimes has immigration installed in other countries. Like in Canada where you pass through US immigration there before you actualy go to the US. Is this also true for Mexico or will I just pass through U.S immigration in the U.S as you would expect? I only have a short time in mexico so I could do without having to show up really early for the flight to NYC because of US immigration there.

Cheers

When I have flown from Mexico City to ATL, US Imigration and customs is done in ATL. I assume it would be the same for NY.
When I have flown thru Toronto for example, US Immigration and customs is done in Toronto.

Does it matter which country you deal with US Immmigration?

If you really want to know, the answer is likely to be on a US Government web page somewhere.

Last time I flew from Mexico to the US, immigration was at the first point I hit US soil. In your case, if it's a direct flight to NYC, you will meet immigration at NYC, if it's not a direct flight you will go through immigration at your point of connection. If that is the case, give yourself plenty of time for the connection.
