TV stations
Sorry if this has already been asked (I could not find it) but can anyone please recommend a reasonably priced SAT. TV station/package for the southeast?

Re: TV stations
There are no reasonably priced satellite or cable TV packages. There are some that are cheaper than others though. I like DirecTV, you can have my account number as a referral if you want and get a $10 a month discount for 10 months if you want.

Re: TV stations
Ah yes. I have warned everyone in this house that I'm approaching the end of cable/sat era in this house. That includes the land line phone as well. I'm sick of paying a whole lot of money, monthly for the privilege of watching nothing and getting all the phone calls on our cells.

Re: TV stations
It's usually not much of a choice but a case of what is on offer in the area.
Usually not great, but some offer better deals for new customers, Fios usually ain't bad if you can get it.

Re: TV stations
Many thanks for all your suggestions. On checking the plans mentioned, they are more expensive than I thought especially as I can only stay for 6 months a year.

Thanks for your offer but I think even with the discount I will have to go without.

Re: TV stations
Normally with cable companies (unlike SAT companies) you get get service by the month and do not need to sign any long term contract.

Re: TV stations
Comcast make you sign up a 12 month contract after the first year if you want to keep the special deal prices, or the price goes way up.

Re: TV stations
When you are talking about short term contracts, cable is the only way to go even if you don't get any discounts.

Re: TV stations
You can get satellite without a contract, you just pay a crap load for installation and equipment and you got get the introductory monthly pricing.

Thanks for all your replies.
I called a local DirecTV shop and explained I wanted a ‘snowbird’ type contract. I already have a dish (perhaps it needs to be realigned) but no receiver. I was quoted $29.99/month for 6 months on and $10/month/ 6 months off, for a 2 year family contract.
Installation of a new dish and receiver would be included.
Is this about the going rate?
Sorry if this is a dumb question but are there ‘Freeview or Skyboxes’ available that receive just the basic channels for free?
I haven’t managed to obtain any cable quotes yet.

There isn't any freeview type thing over here.
You can get digital receivers for the over the air stuff, quality and amount of channels you get depends on the area you live in, but it would be for the very basic of stuff.
