Default Travelling & Working in the US

Good day Guys

I wonder if someone might be able to offer me some advice and/or direct me to some helpful websites.

My friend and myself would like to travel and work our way around the US for a minimum of a year. What permits would we need and how would we go about obtaining them?

Many thanks for your help

Sigh. You can't work here legally. Simple as that, I'm afraid.

I'm sure others will point you towards Pulaski's Ways, but you won't find that any of them allow you to work here.

These are the only visas that allow you to work in the USA http://www.ssa.gov/immigration/visa.htm

Are you eligible for any of these visas?

You can come here to work for about 4 months during the summer, provided you area student and can prove that you have a University/College course to go home to.

They do work you like a dog and you get paid pants, it's slave labour basically, picking blueberries or working in the summer camps.

Best bet would be to try travelling around Oz or Canada...

Thats been really helpful. Thank you.

Would there perhaps be work such as bar or door work be available for those who are just back-packing for a year?

Thanks

Not on a B2 tourist visa, which is what you would need to backpack around the USA for a year. Unless you plan to work illegally. But unless you can prove to the CBP officer at your point of entry that you have enough funds to support your trip, they probably won't let you in as they'll suspect that you might try to work illegally.

Sorry we can't be more helpful, but I think you are looking for answers that just don't exist.

You mean that special kind of work that doesn't need a work visa, gets paid cash-in-hand, and the Immigration Service doesn't care about?

You'll have to compete with a whole bunch of Mexicans!

I have a friend who did the Au Pair America for a year or so in Palo Alto. She met an American there and he did the Bunac deal in the UK for a year when she moved back. He was a teacher and they then granted him another visa in the UK for several years. I never have found out what visa she has, although she has lived in the US for about 5 or 6 years without being married or on a company deal and was given a visa without hassle to live in the US almost right after the au pair deal ended.
