Travel to UK and back

Hi all,
been a while since I have been on here!!

I am going back to UK for a short visit later this week.

I am a permanent resident in the US with a 10 year green card. Does anyone know if I will require an ESTA to return to the US when I come ome back in 2 weeks?

Thanks all

Yep. ESTAs are for people without status in the US. You’re a permanent resident.

They will want to see your green card, on UA once they had it saved in the system I was able to online checkin, but they would still want to see it at the gate before boarding. One of the requirements of VW (visa waiver) is that you have onward travel (most commonly a return flight), so as a GC holder you would not have that anyway as the US is your home.

If you show them your green card, as Lansbury mentioned, which evidences your permanent residence status in the US, why wouldn't they?

As a GC holder I travelled many times between the US and UK. Just show your GC at check-in and also at immigration in the USA. I would also keep a copy of your GC (and your passport) somewhere accessible should your passport and/or GC get lost or stolen while travelling outside the USA. Much easier to get temporary travel documents at a US consulate or embassy if you can show them copies.
