Default Travel / Medical Insurance

Hi there,

I wonder if anyone could help, my father in-law is Italian and he's coming to visit us in the US (Texas) next week for six months, does anyone have any suggestions on who we can get him travel/medical insurance through.

Thanks Shelley

6 months?

I don't know of a visa that guarantees him an entry with an I-94 that will be dated 6 months later.

What visa do you think he has?

Hi, thanks for the reply - he has an E2 so no worries on that. He's in his 70's so I'd feel happier getting him insurance.

The following links provides travel medical insurance for foreigners visiting the US (only $50,000 coverage for ages 70-79) for between $220-280 per month.

Better for him to get it in Italy, that is where he would return to in the event of a serious issue.

Perhaps try a local bank?

My mother got her insurance from Barclays for a week, cost her 25 squid and she's 70...admittedly that's from blighty, but your FIL might be able to get something similar.

An E2 is an investor's visa, and confers legal residence on the holder as long as they maintain status.

As such, I would imagine you would be better getting local coverage. At the very least, you should get confirmation in writing from any italian country that he will be covered, as during his stay he is not 'visiting', he is a resident.

I of course meant italian company, not country.

That's what happens when you have the flu.

No worries, I did do a double take but then worked it out - hope you get better soon!
