Travel Insurance whilst abroad
Hi Everyone,
I really need some help and advice on travel insurance.
I'm an UK citizen who has been living in Australia for the last 6 years as a temporary resident and i am now finally departing and moving over the USA to live with my girlfriend on a tourist visa initally for 3 months.
I need to find travel insurance for the 3 months but i cannot take a policy out in Australia as i am not returning and i cannot take a policy out in the UK becuase i have not lived there in the last 6 years.
The only option i have found so far is World Nomads who seem to be expensive and dont cover a hell of alot.
Does anyone know any other companies that can help someone like me out?
Thanks

You may want to inform people about why you will not be returning, where will you go?

You are visiting the US for 90 days on the VWP, not living. There is a big difference, one that would let you in, the other would get you bounced.
So that's your first big issue.
Travel insurance also isn't worth anything, because they expect you to return from where you came from, so even if you got it, you would likely find them weaseling out of any payment if you needed to make a claim.
There is a couple of threads with info and recommendations, but you'll also find them in the wiki under healthcare, for temporary cover.

Thanks for the reply, yes i understand i have to tell them i am visiting the USA which i am really.
There are companies out there that will insure me even though i'm not returning to where i started the trip from (i.e. Australia), its these that i'm looking for advice on.
World nomads is one but their cover is very basic and does not include many items like laptops, cameras etc

Also contact the specialist travel agency for backpackers/travellers, "Trailfinders" as they offer insurance. They did have travel shops in Australia, but have recently closed them, so you would need to contact them in the UK.

Yes..
I'm no expert on immigration or insurance matters, but, thinking it through, it seems to me it would be prudent for you to establish yourself as a UK resident before you travelled to the USA for a visit. As I understand it, all you (since you are a British Citizen) need to do to be a UK resident is go to the UK with the intention of making it your home. Rent a flat, move in with your parents or a sibling or a friend, whatever. Then, as a United Kingdom resident, you would be eligible to get ordinary British travel insurance.
