Default Travel insurance for visiting parent who is 70+

Hi all

Trying to find out how to get reasonable medical insurance for my mother (aged 70+ with pre-existing conditions, COPD and osteoporosis). 3 years ago coverage was reasonable at around $1000 per year and covered most things (medical, travel etc etc) . Getting quotes recently, it's jumped up a lot $3000+ and becoming simply too expensive.

Wondering how others are managing this with parents back in the UK. We are really looking for emergency medical coverage, no need for travel cancellation etc

Any help appreciated

Thanks

My Grandfather attended our wedding at 91, 6 years ago. He was on meds for Angina, had a previous heart attack, and had a few other prescriptions. We managed to get coverage from Saga without too much hassle. The bummer was it cost ~2000 GBP for 6 days. Your mother is a little younger, hopefully the premium will be lower.

70-79 shouldn't be too much of a problem, but she might need to provide medical info for underwriting.

It gets much tougher from 80 onwards, and as PE said, it can get very pricey!

I asked a similar question recently. I passed on a couple of names to my mum but she was getting tired with the process, as had a number of companies deny to cover her (80) and my dad (85 with a number of health issues including COPD, asthma and cancer) so when she got a name from my uncle and they quoted her, she went with it. It was 3500gbp. Think this will be the last time they visit.

Try World First - they've been pretty good for our aging or chronically ill family

Saga came back with something more reasonable at around £1000. She currently has an infection and I think that’s pushing the prices up, expect it may drop a little once the infection is cleared up.

thanks all

Has anyone explored something like this - https://www.sevencorners.com/

It’s much cheaper but only covers a max of $100k per injury or illness. I can’t see that being enough if my mum had a heart attack

thanks

Repatriation alone from the US would I am sure (but do not know) would cost a fortune.

A quick Google found an air ambulance service that said their USA-UK service started at £49,500.
