Default Travel insurance for non-residents

My wife (UKC) and I (US/UKC), currently resident in the US, plan to visit the UK later this summer. We are wondering what we need to do about travel insurance. Specifically, we are worried about trip cancellation, and emergency medical evacuation.

Being both aged 60+, we of course have pre-existing (but non-intrusive) medical conditions. We tried booking a policy with Allianz, but we got the run-around, on the website and on the phone, over that issue.

Can anyone tell us what is usual? And which providers are good (or otherwise)?

TIA,

Basil

Start by looking at what coverage might be already provided by your credit card company, assuming you paid with a credit card.

What problems are you having with Allianze?

Have used them a couple of times and had no problem getting a policy. Have also used TravelGuard. I am same age group as you.

You've lived in the US (according to your previous posts) for about three years now, so why are you calling yourselves non-residents?

When I last travelled to the UK, about two years ago, I booked via Travelocity and their travel policy explicitly included pre-existing conditions and was reasonably priced.

US health insurance commonly covers treatment while traveling overseas, so you may not have even needed the medical coverage.

Both Travel Guard and Alliance have a clause that if you book your insurance withing 10 to 15 days of your first deposit for the vacation they cover pre-conditions.
