Default Travel insurance

Hi All,

I'm living in NC on an L1-B. I'm off to Thailand in mid May on holiday and am looking for some travel insurance.

Born and raised in the UK but I have an Irish passport, Am I a UK, Irish or a US resident for travel insurance purposes please?

You are a US resident for travel insurance purposes.

Check your US health care policy, that may have some overseas coverage.

Wanted to give a shout out to AIG travel insurance. Good prices, multi-national and good service.

My OH messed up the dates when my son went (on his own) to Beijing for 3 weeks. Once we realised the mistake, we called AIG, said we had made a mistake which meant that my son had no cover past the first few days and they asked us to send the flight details to confirm correct dates and covered him. Even though he had already left for Beijing. I'm not sure any other company would have done this.

I have used Travel Guard (which is linked to AIG) and they have been very efficient, although I have never had to claim.

Several of their policies cover pre-existing conditions if you book within a specified period of booking the flight.

It looks like I am covered to some extent but I think I still need some sort of travel insurance.

"When you travel outside your home country for leisure or on xxxx business, xxxx provides urgent and emergency medical coverage to you and your eligible dependents traveling with you.

Medical Benefits Abroad Plan for leisure and business travel -
When you travel outside your home country and are not placed on an international assignment of more than three months (excluding travel time), you’re automatically enrolled in the Medical Benefits Abroad Plan at no cost to you. The plan features an annual benefit of up to US$1 million per person, plus room and board coverage of up to US$1000 per person per day outside the United States, or at the average semi-private room rate within the United States. The plan also covers emergency dental treatment up to a maximum benefit of US$1000 per year.

The Medical Benefits Abroad Plan is for urgent and emergency medical care, and is subject to general exclusions."
