I am currently working in NY and have H1 status (INS approval), but no H1B visa. I entered the US on an F-1 student visa, which is no longer valid.
I am planning to visit the US Virgin Islands in December. Do I need a VALID visa to travel the the US Virgin Islands from NY? If not, what additional documentation do I need?
Thank you.

You do not need a visa because the Virgin Islands are part of the US.
HOWEVER, you need to make very sure that you catch a nonstop flight from
the US. Many flights to the USVI stop over in other Caribbean countries,
and that would be deadly for you. Not even a stopover in the British
Virgin Islands (and you also shouldn't go on trips out on the ocean
without double-checking that you can come back!)
