While maybe not for pets and not of much use for the OP, there are cases such as lab rats and mice. In the example I was told about the airline removed seats at the back of economy to house them and allow staff to tend to them during the 24h trip. These were special genetically identical mice used for medical research.

Taken in isolation I agree, but you omitted the justification I gave, that small animals take a lot more comfort in being in a dark hidey-hole than you or I would. And while the duration might be a bit longer, I don't think that thunder storms cause guinea pigs to drop dead in large numbers - scary, maybe, but not fatal.

* As far as I can remember I have only traveled anything other than cattle class on four flights, the most recent being in 2006.

So, apart from arguing about how scared a guinea pig might be in a crate in the hold, here's something that might actually be useful - it appears, on a quick scan through the list, that Finnair and Iberia will allow guinea pigs to travel in the cabin. Of course there is the issue of getting the guinea pigs from the UK to departure from Helsinki or Madrid, as you still can't fly them in the cabin out of the UK.

In cattle, as far back as possible, might be the safest, but also the noisiest.
BTW, I’m not arguing, just voicing my opinion.

Try shift them onto family/friends/neighbors or discuss further options with a vet.

Further options???
Maybe the vet could tranquilize them even? You don't know until you ask.

Now, that’s what I call an animal lover👍👍, but I have to say I would not be impressed by sitting next to a couple of cats during a transatlantic.

I can't imagine for a second that a cabin transported animal is allowed to be removed from its cage....

Some might be, but not all. One of mine is a shouter, if we take her in the car to the vets she will not stop meowing the whole way there/back, and during. And if a cat needs the toilet halfway across the Atlantic, that's going to stink the cabin out.
