transcripts for college?

hello,
My husband finished school in Forfar Scotland in 1997 and wants to go to school in the USA now. We are having issues figuring out what he needs for what we in the us call a transcript. We thought maybe his GCSE results, but are unsure. He finished school at the age of 16 and did not go on to any high level of schooling. We keep getting a lot of confusing answers. And the college he is applying to is just a community college that has no idea.
Thanks for you help!

He can try to get transcripts (record of his classes and grades in school) and have them evaluated but suspect the easiest way would be to take the GED test which will give him a US high school equivalency. It is a pretty easy test and there are sample questions on the internet and even books that will prime him on the different questions. Several on BE have taken the test and some just walked in after many years of being out of school without preparing and passed the test. My ex took hers back in the 1970's (she prepared a bit since she was diverted towards secretarial training in school) and later went on to getting two degrees at the University of California.

30 years I did the GED after 11 years out of high school as it seemed an easier option than trying to get transcripts sent and evaluated. I took a pre test first and they said just take the GED as based on the pre test you will have no trouble with the GED. The GED test was quite easy even being out of school for so long.

What ever the school want, you get, and whoever the school wants you to use to evaluate those records, you use.

If the school doesn't have a clue, just do a GED, it'll be easier and cheaper anyway.
