Transatlantic fares set to tumble after 'Open Skies' air deal

I am hoping that more regional airports will have direct links, such as Dallas to Manchester. Its a real pain having to go via other airports.

I hope Manchester gets more routes, MAN to LAX would be great for me.

British airways used to fly that route but gave it up because it proved to be uneconomical. I loved it. Never saw more than 60 passengers on any of the flights. Full row of five every time.

Seattle to Prestwick

tell my hubby to say that to everyone who can make decisions in that area, he says he does but don't believe him
He keeps telling me it's not cost effective:frown: :sneaky:

I managed to do it once to someone relevant in BA but the look I got from him - mixture of pity, patronising, who is this idiot etc etc. Made me shut up and bury my head in my dinner :o :frown:

The only thing the Open Skies agreement benefits over the old Bermuda II for UK citizens is further hub access to the USA. The Bermuda II agreement only covered Heathrow, other airports in the UK were always open to US carriers.

There are virtually no slots available at Heathrow so expect the only difference Open Skies will make to the UK is to add value to BAA's airport slots. Unless Virgin, BA, UA, and AA are forced to share.

The only way fares will tumble is:
1) true deregulation takes place, and market manipulation is removed, allowing the market to decide where service is needed, and the market cost (removal of the artificial barriers which currently do not allow the market to work) and;
2) hell freezes over

Let's face it, it ain't going to happen.

yes and also (if I listened to my OH work talk correctly!)

European airlines can now fly transatlantic out of any airport in the UK if they wish.
The normal fare won't drop much, more likely it will affect the business fares more, causing more competition on the high end fares.

Did you all see the news? Oh, it's awesome! And about time! Hoorah for Zoom!!!

http://www.flyzoom.com/index.cfm?fus...Media&MedID=20

No fare hikes based on day of week, or season!!! Travel in high summer for the same price! Upgrade to business class for 99 pound! One-ways don't cost more than round-trip! This is phenomenal news! (I'm really excited :D )

zoom has been around for a while but it is good news for the East coast.

Better news I think, is Ryanairs announcement yesterday of transatlantic flights http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p..._IoTM&refer=uk
now that will really be good flying to different places in the US
