Default Tornado in North Carolina

I know a good many of you live in North Carolina. Hope everyone is safe and your property unharmed by yesterday's tornado outside of Wilmington.

I was swept away to a world of flying monkeys on rollerskates, other than that I'm OK.

The storm has just reached us and we are on a severe weather alert with a high chance of tornados until 6.00pm. Also on flash flood alert until tomorrow morning. I have to admit it is getting very, very windy outside. I love the way the weatherman frighten everyone to death. All after school programs schools have been cancelled and my daughter is adamant that we need to get into the basement just in case.

This town was hit by a tornado a couple of years ago, fortunately nobody was seriously injured but there was a huge amount of damage.

A tornado touched down on Tuesday night in Laurel, MS (Sumeral community) which is close to my daughter in Hattiesburg, MS. Sumeral is only five blocks away. I called her immediately on Wednesday morning when I learned of the damage there.

PS Just in time for my train ride home ;-(

We had no damage in 2003 but the noise was deafening as it came through. Then listening to trees fall in the silence afterwards was quite eerie.

The death toll in Columbus County is eight, according to what I heard on NPR on the drive home today.

Early this morning, maybe around 4.00am, what sounded like a tornado passed through my neighborhood. It woke me up. Tremendous winds and the rain beating down on the house like mad for about 30 minutes.

I don't think there was any damage to the house or yard.
